- Analyze the cultural and historical context of names.
- Communicate their personal narratives related to their names in a written format.
- Appreciate the diversity of names and the stories behind them.
- Foster a sense of belonging and community by sharing personal experiences.

My Name Activity
1. Write your name on a piece of paper. Under your name, write all the names you go by in the different roles you play.
2. Read an excerpt from the novel My Name by Sandra Cisneros, which you will find in the Resources below.
3. Cold Reading: Text is read one time by the students. Strong Line Reading: The instructor reads the assigned text a second time as students search for their strong lines.4. Sharing: Strong Lines. Everyone in class shares their strong lines, if they want, they can explain why they chose the line.
5. Share your strong lines in the My Name Activities link provided in the resources.
Writing Time
6. Write the story of your name. Why did your parents give you that name?
* Alternative writing prompt: Circle one of the other names you have been given, and write about the person who gave you the name, the special bond, and why this nickname is important to you.
