ACC ASCENDER STUDENTS ATTEND EVENTS

Look Beyond All Borders Through Stories
Ascender hosted the first-ever Look Beyond All Borders Through Stories at the Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation Center on March 23, bringing together students, faculty, and staff to discuss migration in the United States. The event started with a screening of The Hamilton Mixtape: Immigrants (We Get The Job Done) followed by a panel discussion with anthropologist professor Dr. Carleen D. Sanchez, history professor Dr. Gary Moreno, and sociology professor Dr. Echevarria-Cruz. Four students shared their migration stories, which served as a reminder that stories have power.

UT Austin and St. Edward’s College Tour
Ascender students interested in transferring to a 4-year university went on a college tour, organized by the ACC Transfer Resources office, to St. Edward’s University and the University of Austin Texas on March 31st. Both provided information on the admissions process and addressed students’ questions. This was followed by a student-led tour of the campus that highlighted the college’s student life culture, historical landmarks, and the different programs offered.

Student Leadership Summit
On March 24th, approximately 50 Ascender students attended The Summit at the Rio Grande campus where they networked with their peers. Named after the concept of heliotropism, the event successfully enabled each participant to “find their light”. The Summit provided students with motivation and momentum as they returned from spring break.
